Steady free-surface flow at the stern of a ship
نویسنده
چکیده
New solutions for steady two-dimensional free-surface flow past a curved plate are considered here. They can be interpreted as approximations to the flow locally at the stern of a ship. Weakly nonlinear solutions are derived analytically and nonlinear solutions are computed by boundary integral equation methods. Analysis in the phase plane provides a way to determine the geometries of hulls that give rise to wave-free stern flows. These waveless flows are desirable as they reduce ship-drag. © 2010 American Institute of Physics. doi:10.1063/1.3275847

Heat generation and radiation effects on steady MHD free convection flow of micropolar fluid past a moving surface
This paper was concerned with studying the magnetohydrodynamic steady laminar free convection flow of a micropolar fluid past a continuously moving surface in the presence of heat generation and thermal radiation. Similarity transformation was employed to transform the governing partial differential equations into ordinary ones, which were then solved numerically using the finite element method...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Free Surface Flows and Comparison of Symmetry and Real Boundary Conditions at the Free Surface
For implementation of the free surface boundary condition, a new subroutine has been introduced to an existing steady 3-D body fitted code. This code was previously written for steady flow simulation in closed ducts. The algorithm used in this subroutine reduces the instability problem according to the free surface wave generation. For code validation, it was applied to two different open cha...

Nowadays, various numerical methods are developed to extend computational fluid dynamics in engineering applications. One of the most useful methods in free surface modeling is Boundary Element Method (BEM). BEM is used to model inviscid fluid flow such as flow around ships. BEM solutions employ surface mesh at all of the boundaries. In order to model the linear free surface, BEM can be modifie...
متن کاملInvestigating the Effect of Free Surface on Hydrodynamic Performance of Propeller
Simulation of the flow around propeller is a complex fluid flow problem, especially when the propeller is close to free surface. In this study, the effect of different depths on the performance and efficiency of a B-Wageningen series close to surface of water have been numerically investigated. For this purpose the ANSYS-FLUENT commercial software has been used to solve the viscous, incompressi...
